SYD-259石油产品水溶性酸及碱试验器是按照国家标准GB/T 259《石油产品水溶性酸及碱测定法》所规定的要求设计制造的，适用于测定液体石油产品、添加剂、润滑脂、石蜡及含蜡组分的水溶性酸或水溶性碱。本仪器用蒸馏水或乙醇水溶液抽提试样中的水溶性酸或水溶性碱，然后，分别用甲基橙或酚酞指示剂检查抽出液颜色的变化情况，或用酸度计测定抽提物的pH值，以判断有无水溶性酸或水溶性碱的存在。
