Biological Activity:
An immune response modifier which activates immune cells through the toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7). Cells that become activated will then secrete cytokines such as IFN-α, IL-6 and TNFα. Natural killer cells, B-lymphocytes and macrophages are among the different cell types that can become activated by Imiquimod. May exhibit anti-tumor activity against cutaneous cancers. Maintains a variety of clinical uses such as treating external genital warts, certain types of skin cancer and skin conditions like actinic keratoses.
